During this election season we have kept our blog decidedly (and deliberately) non-political, and that is not going to change now. However, after watching history literally unfold before our eyes last night, it seems absurd to not acknowledge the thing that is already on the collective hearts and minds of our nation.
Last night our country elected a new leader. A leader that will, for the foreseeable future, be entrusted with guiding us through some difficult times. Regardless of your political leanings or affiliations our president will need our support, and he will absolutely need our prayer. We hope that you'll join us as we pray for our new president, not out of a sense of obligation, but instead from a heart filled with joy and optimism.

President Elect Obama will absolutely have my prayers as will his cabinet and all the governing officials. As much as it's my civil duty to vote, I believe strongly that it is my responsibility and desire to pray for God to protect and give much wisdom to our elected officials. it's a tremendous amount of responsibility they hold each and every day. they must have our prayers.
either way the election would have gone this year would have made history. it is amazing that we have witnessed such great strides in our country.
When the Israelites cried out for a King...demanded they have a King, rather, it was Samuel who went to God on their behalf and asked for what the people wanted. despite samuel feeling rejected by the people, he did it anyway, because of his love of them. And God, because of His great love for the israelite, His chosen ones, granted them their hearts desire. however, he instructed samuel to forewarn them...the king will reign over you, He will take your sons and horsemen and appoint them for his own, He will appoint captains and take your grounds and plow it for his own, he will make weapons of war for his own chariots, he will take your daughters and put them to work, he will take the best of your fields, livestock, vineyards, and a 10th of your grain for himself, he will take your servants and finest young men and donkeys and put them to work for himself, he'll take a 10th of your livestock...and your will cry out in that day because your king whom you have chosen for yourselves, and the LORD will not hear you in that day...1 Samuel 8
God is sovereign. But when we clamor for our own desires, God sometimes lets us have our way. We then experience life apart from Him, without His protection and His blessing. I wonder if this is what has happened to America as we've taken God out of so much of our country that was founded upon Him and His word?
So yes, I will be praying and praying hard. not out of obligation but out of my desire that our country would turn back to Him and seek Him with all of our hearts that there He may be found.
The permission of God is not necessarily the will of God. He may grant our rebellious desires, but always at a great cost-we miss what God originally purposed.
I am thrilled for the african american people of our nation, who suffered much loss and unbearable suffering. However, I only wish it was a man of color who feared the Lord and revered life.
I love you Jen and, Rob, by association. I appreciate your blog so much and hope that I haven't overstepped my bounds here. But I speak all this in love for it is the cry of my heart. May God bless your precious family for many many years to come.
i forgot one thing in that big looooong post. my joy and hope comes from the Lord and the Lord alone, not from any man or woman, be it black or white, rep or dem. ALL elected officials, both parties included here, HAVE and WILL fail us at some point or another. which is why i choose to put my hope ultimately in the King of all kings.
thanks for sharing Lisa!! It is a lot to think about and pray about! Your comments are always welcome :-)
