The Rubber Room

Preface:  This blog entry will have no baby pictures.  It may not even say the word "baby" besides the two times that I just said it.  But wait!!  Before your eyes glaze over and you move on with your day, let me make this promise:  if you take the time to follow the links at the end of this page you will have your freak freaked.

Ok.

Working at night, sometimes I find myself driving to and from my job at odd hours.  It was during one of these drives that I happened to catch an interesting radio show on NPR called "This American Life."
The show is self-described in this way, "... each week we choose a theme and put together different kinds of stories on that theme..."
Anyway, the other night I was listening to an episode of this show as I drove to work.  It was about a place in New York City called the "Rubber Room."
I'm not going to try to summarize the story, or what the rubber room is.  To do that would merely delude the end result as the truth turns every brain cell that you have ever had, or hoped to have into lime jello.

Alright, so to get the story on the rubber room you can do one of two things, (or both- which Jen and I did.)
First, you can follow this link to listen to the actual show for free on NPR's website.  I recommend this option.  The link is here.  Click on the yellow icon for 'full episode' in the episode entitled 'Human Resources.'  The Rubber Room story is not the entire show so you have to listen to someone talk about firing people first.  If you hang in there though, prepare to have your brain exploded, put back together, and then exploded again.
The second option is to watch a trailer of a documentary film thats just been made about the rubber room.  This is also a good option, but may not have quite the brain-exploding power of the full radio show.  That website is here.

Ok, thanks for indulging me.  I promise that next time I'll bring you more baby pictures then you can even stomach in one sitting.
